Acceptable use policy
Last updated 1 October 2026
This policy says what you may and may not do with Intercom Chat. It is part of our terms of service. The people responsible for a workspace (its Owner and Admins) are accountable for how it is used, including by the guests they invite.
What is not allowed
You may not use the service to:
- break the law, or help someone else to;
- harass, threaten, stalk or abuse anyone, or share content that targets people for who they are (their race, religion, sex, sexuality, disability, nationality or similar);
- share sexual content involving children, or any sexual content about someone who has not agreed to it;
- defraud, scam or deceive people, including phishing, impersonating a person or organisation, or sending unwanted bulk messages;
- upload or send malware, or anything meant to damage, disable or spy on another system or person;
- infringe other people’s rights, for example by sharing material you have no right to share, or personal data you have no lawful reason to share;
- store or share other people’s payment card numbers, government identity numbers, or secret keys in a way that puts them at risk (workspaces on higher plans can switch on rules that stop this).
Protecting the service
You may not:
- probe, scan or test the service for weaknesses, or try to get around any limit or control, without our written permission;
- try to reach another workspace’s data, or anything your role or plan does not allow;
- overload the service, or use automated means to create accounts or send messages in bulk;
- use the service to build a competing product, or resell it, without our written agreement;
- hide who you are in order to avoid the rules, or sign in as someone else.
Apps, webhooks and sharing channels
An app or webhook you connect is your responsibility, and its messages are held to the same rules as a person’s. When you share a channel with another company, what your people write there is copied to that company, so use the same care you would in an email to them.
Artificial intelligence
You may not use the AI features to produce content that breaks this policy, to try to get around the rules of the service, or to extract the instructions behind it. AI output can be wrong; check it before you rely on it.
What happens if the policy is broken
We may warn the people responsible, remove content, limit features, or suspend or end an account or workspace. We will normally give notice and a chance to put things right, but we may act immediately where there is a risk of harm, a legal duty, or a threat to the service or to other customers. A workspace Owner or Admin can also act on their own workspace, for example by removing a message or deactivating a person.
Reporting a problem
If you see something that breaks this policy, or you have found a security weakness, email support@intercomchat.com. If you report a weakness in good faith and give us reasonable time to fix it before telling anyone else, we will not take action against you.
