What’s new
Last updated 2 October 2026
The latest changes to Intercom Chat, newest first.
Two-step sign-in · 9 October 2026
- You can now protect your account with a code from an authenticator app. Turn it on from Devices, then Two-step sign-in and recovery codes.
- You get ten one-time recovery codes in case you lose your phone. If you lose those too, an Owner or Admin can reset it from Admin, then Members.
Hand your workspace to someone else · 9 October 2026
- An Owner can now transfer ownership to an Admin from Admin, then Members. The Owner becomes an Admin, both people are emailed, and the change is written to the audit log.
Pay with crypto, and calls are on · 9 October 2026
- Workspaces can now pay in Bitcoin or USDT on Tron. Crypto is prepaid for a set period, and you get a reminder before it ends.
- Calls and screen share are switched on, with media carried in the EU and never recorded.
An app marketplace · 7 October 2026
- Developers can register apps, and workspace administrators can install them from Admin, then Marketplace. An app does only what is approved, in the channels chosen, under its own name.
- A public marketplace and a developer guide.
Pins, reminders and a help centre · 7 October 2026
- Pin important messages to a channel, and open them all from the channel header.
- Remind me about a message: pick a time and we notify you by browser notification and email.
- A public help centre with step-by-step guides.
- Faster page loads for people who have a lot of unread messages: the sidebar now shows 99+ instead of counting every one.
- Sign-in limits are now shared across servers, so adding capacity does not weaken them.
People and notifications · 2 October 2026
- A People directory with an org chart: who is here, what they do and who they report to. Email addresses are not shown.
- Browser notifications for mentions and direct messages. They say who and where, never what the message says.
- Shared channels now apply the receiving company’s data protection rules to what arrives.
- Crypto plans: if people are added during a paid period, a top-up covers them for the days that remain.
Easier to use, easier to see · 2 October 2026
- A menu button on phones, so the sidebar and every screen are reachable on a small screen.
- Clearer text and button colours in light and dark mode, and better support for screen readers and keyboards.
- The font is now served from our own site instead of Google, so nobody’s browser contacts a third party just to show text.
- The installable app (icon, offline notice) now works as intended.
- Stronger browser protections on every page.
- A public system status page, and developer documentation for the API.
Shared channels, devices and more apps · 1 October 2026
- Share a channel with another company: each keeps its own copy and its own control of who reads it.
- Ready-made apps for GitHub, GitLab, Jira, Sentry and Linear.
- Devices: see where you are signed in and sign out any of them. Admins can set how long sign-ins last and sign people out.
- Keep messages for a set time: older messages move to the archive automatically.
- Pay by card, PayPal or (soon) crypto. Crypto plans get a reminder before they end.
- New acceptable use, cookies, security and data processing pages, and an updated terms and privacy policy.
The foundations · Before that
- Channels, direct messages, threads, reactions, files, canvases, lists, saved items and scheduled messages.
- Single sign-on (SAML) and automatic user provisioning (SCIM).
- AI recaps, file summaries and a personal assistant that only use what you can already open.
- Data protection rules for card numbers, bank accounts, identity numbers and secret keys.
- Guests, who see only the channels they are invited to.
- Deleted messages are archived; only an Owner or Admin can delete them permanently.
- Workflows, outgoing webhooks, an API, and import from other chat apps.
